About

Transgender Leadership Alaska (TLA) was formed and founded by and for transgender, gender non-conforming, and non-binary people in the state of Alaska. It’s purpose is to create and sustain safe and welcoming communities by creating culture change through awareness, community outreach, and provide education concerning trans and gender expansive people and their experience.

On April 3rd, 2018, Alaskans with the help of Fair Anchorage and the TLA and it’s members, defeated Proposition 1, a ballot measure that would have actively discriminated against transgender and gender expansive people. All of us need to act on this organizing work now because we have built momentum and we want to capitalize on the work done by the campaign. The work on trans rights has historically been predominantly done in a reactionary way, and now is the time to build networks, create our base, and create lasting community change. We have the energy, let’s keep it going.

Together, our mission is to provide education and outreach to Alaska’s transgender communities. Our goal is to provide educational resources to all Alaskan communities, regarding transgender lives and the trans people who reside in those cities, towns, and villages. You too can be part of our work, whether you are a transgender person in Alaska looking to build your leadership skills or connections with other trans people, a business or group who wants to host an opportunity for people to learn about trans experience, or anyone else who is moved to support human rights who would like to give back to non-binary, gender expansive, or transgender people.
